The next Berlin Jacobin Reading group will be on Wednesday, January 17th at 7pm in Bilgasaray (Oranienstraße 194, between U-Bahn stations Kotbusser Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof). Before that, between 5.45pm and 7pm there’s time to cook and eat.
The subject will be Identity Politics. What do people mean when they talk about “identity politics?” or “intersectionality”. We’ll look at the history of these terms, how socialists can make sense of them and their varying meanings, and how to best address political questions related to race, class, gender and sexuality.
The texts for discussion are as follows
- Intersectional Identity and the Path to Progress by Eleanor Robertson in Meanjin
- How Race Is Conjured an interview with Barbara J. Fields and Karen E. Fields in Jacobi
- Identity Crisis by Salar Mohandesi in Viewpoint
